The ERA Club

The first ERA, R1, is wheeled out at Eastgate House in Bourne in May 1934.
Peter Berthon is standing to the right of R1’s cockpit, with John Lea to the left, and Lawrence pushing the car from behind.

ENGLISH RACING AUTOMOBILES
ERAs raced competitively at the highest level of motor racing from 1934 until 1952.
The marque is almost unique, as a major motor racing marque, in that, for every one of the twenty cars which ERA built during this period, each car’s ownership history is known at every point throughout its life.

THE ERA CLUB - ITS HISTORY
The ERA Club was formed in 1936 by a group of enthusiasts who wished to support the English Racing Automobiles (ERA) marque.
Until World War II the Club was very active and most of the contemporary ERA owners and drivers were Club members.

After World War II the Club was not active again until the mid-1950s.
By that time a new generation of ERA drivers was establishing the cars as the leading marque in historic motor racing.
Since then the Club has had a more or less continuous existence.

The ERA Club now exists as a forum for owners, drivers and anyone who is interested in ERAs.
Almost all of the current ERA owners are Club members.
The Club Secretary is Guy Spollon.

The two principal milestones in the Club’s year are the publication of Hearsay, its annual journal, and its Annual Lunch, both of which usually take place during the autumn.
